Wakil Kohsar

Born in Afghanistan’s Panjshir Valley in 1981, Wakil Kohsar migrated to Pakistan during the Russian invasion. After almost 8 years as a refugee in Pakistan, he returned to Afghanistan in 1992. Since an early age, he has had a passion for photography and filmmaking and, after the fall of the Taliban in 2001, enrolled in the photojournalism course at Aina Media & Cultural Center. In the years since, his work has been published both in Afghanistan and around the world in such publications as the Boston Globe, Der Spiegel and Parvaz, a magazine made for Afghan primary school students. Kohsar has worked for Moby Media Group in Kabul since 2007, and he is one of the photographers profiled in the film Frame by Frame (Mountainfilm 2015).
