Tom Attwater

Making the move from Kansas to Montana for college set Tom Attwater’s trajectory. In addition to earning a bachelor's in fine arts from the University of Montana in 2016, he has spent time as a backcountry instructor and river guide. Attwater is interested in all mediums, but primarily focuses on documentary filmmaking and photography. As a visual storyteller, his ultimate goal is to bring the core of the story to the surface with subtle but powerful techniques that encourage the audience to engage in the story. In Through the Breaks (Mountainfilm 2020) he follows the journey of a boat builder who takes his family on a float trip down the Missouri River — chronicling the layers of family tradition and history that are unveiled.
