Spencer MacDonald

Spencer McDonald’s interest in film began on his journey through the Indian Himalaya to reach a remote collection of villages known as Zanskar. As he sat in a nunnery teaching English to Buddhist nuns, it became clear that the only way to convey this way of life to his family and friends back home was through film. Film has become the most potent vehicle McDonald has found to communicate on every level: viscerally, visually, psychologically, emotionally and intellectually. His goal is to use film to shed light on otherwise undocumented environmental, cultural and social phenomena — and thereby inspire change. He is the director of Conservation Generation (Mountainfilm 2017).
