Sir Chris Bonington

Mountaineer, writer, photographer and lecturer Sir Chris Bonington started scaling peaks as a teenager in 1951, and has been chasing his passion ever since. His alpine achievements include the first British ascent of the North Wall of the Eiger, leading the expedition that made the first ascent of the South Face of Annapurna and leading the expedition that made the first ascent of the Southwest Face of Mt. Everest. Bonington is still actively climbing — fueled by the same enthusiasm that got him into the mountains in the first place. He is the author of 17 books, and has lectured to audiences across the world. In 1996, he received a knighthood for services to mountaineering.
