Shara Zaia

Shara Zaia is a professional athlete, storyteller and community organizer whose work centers identity and belonging. With a background in education and the outdoor industry, she is committed to uplifting overlooked perspectives. Zaia co-founded Cruxing in Color, a Colorado-based nonprofit that supports marginalized climbers through free memberships, gear, clinics and community events. Zaia is the co-director of Sharp Edges (Mountainfilm 2026), alongside Max Haimowitz. After developing inclusive climbing programs for the American Alpine Club, she now works full-time at Protect Our Winters, planning events and advocating for climate action. Zaia lives in Denver with her Australian shepherd, Beau, and continues to build spaces rooted in equity, connection and care.
