Rev. Mariama White-Hammond

Climate change activist and social justice minister Rev. Mariama White-Hammond got her start at the age of 7 when she gave up Coca-Cola to protest their investment in South Africa’s apartheid. These days she’s busy building bridges between the environmental and racial justice movements in Boston as the founding pastor of New Roots AME Church in Dorchester. Rev. White-Hammond uses an intersectional lens in her ecological work, challenging people to see the connection between immigration and climate change. A fellow with the Green Justice Coalition, she was the emcee for the 2017 Boston Women’s March and Boston People’s Climate Mobilization. She has received numerous awards including the Barr Fellowship and the Celtics Heroes Among Us and was selected as one of 11 Women Shaping the Church by Sojourners.
