Norah Shapiro
Norah Shapiro spent over a decade in poverty law as a public defender before coming to the world of filmmaking. Her films include her first feature film Miss Tibet: Beauty in Exile, which won “Best Minnesota Made Feature Documentary” award at the 2015 Minneapolis/St. Paul International Film Festival; Minnesota 13: From Grain to Glass, about the untold story of Moonshine in Minnesota; and Time for Ilhan (Mountainfilm 2018), a portrait of Ilhan Omar, the first Somali Muslim woman to be elected to state office in America. Shapiro is a recipient of the prestigious McKnight Filmmaking Fellowship, and her films have screened at DOC NYC Film Festival, SF DocFest and Asian American International Film Festival. As the founder of Flying Pieces Productions, Shapiro focuses on producing documentary-style videos to help nonprofits, businesses and artists tell their story.
