Mark Nelson

Dr. Mark Nelson was one of eight people selected to live and sustain life inside the fully enclosed Biosphere 2 from 1991 to 1993 and was featured in the film Spaceship Earth (Mountainfilm 2021). His areas of expertise include closed ecological system research, bioregenerative space life support, ecological engineering, restoration of damaged ecosystems, desert agriculture and wastewater recycling. Nelson is the chairman of the Institute of Ecotechnics, head of Wastewater Gardens International and an associate editor of the journal Life Sciences in Space Research. He has authored many books including the recent second edition of Life Under Glass: Crucial Lessons in Planetary Stewardship.
