Gregory J. Fiske
Greg is a geographer and cartographer who administers the many technical aspects of Woodwell Climate Research Center’s geospatial and data visualization activities. His background includes extensive use of geospatial techniques, including geographic information systems (GIS), cartography, remote sensing and relational database management.
Fiske has broad expertise in cloud-based spatial data analysis. He has designed and developed complex spatial analysis workflows and has taught many scientists, students and researchers on the use of both open-source and proprietary geospatial software.
Fiske is this year’s mural artist. The spatial data and images in the mural titled “Cartographies of Arctic Change” represents the realities of our changing Arctic. The Arctic is warming three to four times faster than the rest of Earth and the resulting changes, like permafrost thaw and wildfire, affect Arctic communities and the global climate.
