Emily Schuman

Emily Schuman is a documentary producer and filmmaker whose work centers on bold, character-driven stories. Her production work includes True Believer, The Disrupted (Mountainfilm 2020) and Lift. Schuman’s directorial debut, When I’m Her (Mountainfilm 2021), follows a dancer and his alter ego, Madame Olga. She is producing Northern Residents, a feature following orca researchers on Hanson Island, and Finding Fanny, a portrait of pioneering 19th-century lithographer Fanny Palmer. Schuman is the co-director of SONIA (Mountainfilm 2026), alongside Sarah Colt. She also co-directed The Baker’s Hotline (Mountainfilm 2026), a playful look at a real baking emergency line, and co-produced Judy Blume Forever. Based in Brooklyn, Schuman began her career as a camera assistant.
