The Beekeepers

2008 USA
Duration: 28 mins

Overview

Scientists estimate that bees are involved in one out of every three bites of food that we eat, which is why the disappearance of mass colonies of bees is so disturbing. The Beekeepers—directed by Richard Knox Robinson—examines “colony collapse disorder” in an unusual way, assessing thousands of years in the history of beekeeping and questioning if the future of bees is a harbinger of our own fate. Robinson is a photographer who learned to keep bees 20 years ago in the Netherlands, and his understanding of the subject shows in this impressionistic film. —DH
