Eyes in the Forest
In the Columbian Amazon, a team of research scientists put out camera traps to snap photos of animals — tapirs, jaguars, warthogs, birds — as they amble past. These forests, in a region called La Macarena, are some of the most biodiverse in the world — but they’re threatened by illegal loggers who clear the land to make way for cattle. Using a revolutionary new technology to analyze the photos, conservationists are in a race against extinction to get the information to policy makers in time.
