Overview

In many countries being LGBTQ is illegal; in a few, it’s a crime punishable by death. Unsettled tells the stories of young refugees, some of whom are fleeing violence from their own family and seeking asylum in the U.S. But, arriving on American soil isn’t the end of their struggles as they adjust to life in a new country where nearly 70 percent of asylum claims are denied by the Department of Homeland Security. Cheyenne and Mari navigate a complicated legal process that threatens to derail their dreams, Junior struggles with alcohol and slips toward homelessness and Subhi achieves success but grapples with who he has left behind in Syria.
