Overview

Inside Oregon’s only women’s prison, a conservation program works to restore an endangered butterfly. As eggs are collected and caterpillars are fed by hand, each life stage is carefully protected. Carolyn, the lab’s first hire, grows host plants in the prison yards and reflects on how access to nature reshaped her 25 years inside. As metamorphosis nears, the film explores captivity, purpose and the natural world.
