Growing up, Scott Gates always knew he wanted to be a musician. As soon as he got a car and a mandolin, busking offered a way out of his hometown and a sense of freedom. Gates learns he can make a buck belting out bluegrass tunes, but it’s the connection with others, a shared processing of emotion through song, that gives his work meaning.
