With high unemployment and crime rates, it’s all too easy for the youth of South Memphis to turn to drugs and gangs. But some, like Demond, lean on Memphis Rox, a nonprofit climbing gym in the neighborhood that employs more than 50 locals and welcomes everyone — regardless of their ability to pay. After getting hit by a stray bullet, Demond finds a reprieve from the streets at the gym and brotherly support from Malik, a mentor and photographer at Memphis Rox.
