Overview
Mirna and Magdiel are an ordinary family living under extraordinary circumstances. After fleeing violence in Honduras, joining the infamous migrant caravan and enduring months in a U.S. detention center, they are sponsored by a synagogue in Seattle, which lends them an empty beachfront home while they wait for their asylum verdict. Over three years, this young family navigates countless moments — both life-altering and mundane — where grief, memory and joy collide.

Northwest Immigrant Rights Project
Northwest Immigrant Rights Project (NWIRP) is one of the largest organizations in the United States providing free legal representation to low-income immigrants and refugees. Established in 1984, NWIRP began in response to a large number of asylum seekers from Central America fleeing violence and persecution in their home countries. Since then, NWIRP has grown into a full-fledged non-profit organization based out of four offices in Washington State in Seattle, Tacoma, Granger, and Wenatchee. NWIRP now serves thousands of community members from over 140 countries who speak over 60 different languages each year. In addition to providing free direct representation for immigrants, NWIRP challenges unjust policies through high-impact lawsuits, and advocates for laws that respect the rights of immigrants. NWIRP also empowers immigrant communities with information about their rights while educating social service providers about immigration protections available to the communities they serve.
