Overview

Anne Dammarell was working for USAID in Beirut to rebuild schools and hospitals after the civil war, when the U.S. Embassy bombing left her with broken bones and a head injury. Four decades after surviving the 1983 bombing, the 86-year-old confronts the memories of the day that reshaped her life, transforming survivor’s guilt into a quiet, enduring mission for peace and moral clarity. Now, after 80% of USAID’s programs have been cancelled, Dammarell recommits to speaking up for democracy at a critical moment in history.
