Sylvia Johnson

Filmmaker Sylvia Johnson was born in Bolivia to American parents doing development work abroad. Inspired by the meaningful work of her parents, Johnson has brought a fierce humanitarian to Free Roaming Studios, a small production company dedicated to visual storytelling that inspires action. Her work has screened at film festivals around the world. She made her first film as a Fulbright scholar, and is a National Geographic Explorer working on a film called Mermaids Against Plastic (2019), about women scientists and divers in the Mexican Caribbean trying to save the ocean they love from plastic pollution. Johnson is the director of Refuge(e) (Mountainfilm 2019).
