Roman Dial

National Geographic Explorer and scientist Roman Dial has been called America’s most imaginative adventurer for his pioneering use of mountain bikes, packrafts and cross-country skis on long trips across Alaska’s wilderness. Having crisscrossed the globe with his children, he wasn’t surprised when his son, Cody, followed in his footsteps and embarked on a six month trip through Latin America. What was a surprise was Cody’s disappearance after describing an upcoming wilderness trek through Costa Rica’s Corcovado National Park. In his memoir, The Adventurer’s Son, Dial reflects on the challenges of wilderness pursuits, raising a family and the soul-searching that accompanied his physical search for his missing son.
