River Finlay

River Finlay is a filmmaker with a love of the Mexican subculture of female lucha libre wrestling. Her 2015 short documentary Luchadora (Mountainfilm 2015) delves into the life of wrestler Luna Magica, exploring issues of gender and power. The film won Best Documentary Short at Cinequest. Before becoming a filmmaker, Finlay spent many years working in Latin America as a public health expert. She is also a producer at Think Out Loud Productions, where she combines the worlds of international health with film. Finlay has a master’s in public health from Columbia University and a master’s in film and video from American University.
