Matt Black

Matt Black uses photography to convey the connection of human relationships to land, food, farming and community. Specifically, Black has photographed rural agricultural communities in California and Mexico. His photographs from Santiago Mitlatongo, Mexico, were exhibited at Mountainfilm in 2013. Moving into the medium of film, Harvest of Shadows (Mountainfilm 2014) explores the moral dilemma of California food production in the hands of 450,000 undocumented farm laborers. Black’s work has been honored by the World Press Photo Foundation, the Alexia Foundation for World Peace, the Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Foundation and others.
