Maite Zubiaurre

Maite Zubiaurre is a humanities professor at UCLA and holds a joint appointment in the school’s Department of Germanic Languages and the Department of Spanish and Portuguese. She earned a Ph.D. in comparative literature from Columbia University and is a core faculty member at UCLA’s Urban Humanities Initiative, where she teaches border studies and Mexican popular culture. The author of numerous articles, Zubiaurre is currently working on a piece about migrant deaths at the U.S.-Mexico border. She further explores this topic as the co-director and producer of the short documentary Águilas (Mountainfilm, 2021).
