Louise Pascale

Louise Pascale has worked for over 25 years in the field of arts and education. She is a professor in the Creative Arts in Learning Division at Lesley University and the founder and director of the Afghan Children’s Songbook Project. Motivated by her interest in preserving traditional music — and her work as a Peace Corps volunteer in Afghanistan in the late ’60s — Pascale works with Afghan musicians and poets to publish and distribute songbooks of traditional Afghan children’s songs. Because of over 20 years of war and oppression in Afghanistan, these children’s songs have all but disappeared from the culture. Through her work, Pascale has witnessed the power and potential music has to unify and strengthen community by joining people together in a common experience.
