Louie Psihoyos

Louie Psihoyos

  • 2020 — Guest Director
  • 2018 — Film Director
  • 2015 — Special Guest, Filmmaker
  • 2010 — Speaker, Special Guest, Filmmaker

Louie Psihoyos was hired directly out of college to shoot for National Geographic, and created images for the yellow-bordered magazine for 18 years. His work has been widely lauded for its ability to bring humanity and wit to complicated science stories; that quality carries over to his filmmaking. An ardent diver and dive photographer, he is motivated by a mission to show the world the decline of our planet’s crucial resource: water. He created The Oceanic Preservation Society with Jim Clark in 2005. With his first film, the Academy-Award winning The Cove (Mountainfilm 2009), he touched many with his unflinching view of a dark subject. Bringing together artists and activists alike, Psihoyos assembled an undercover mission to bring light to the world of endangered species in Racing Extinction (Mountainfilm 2015). His film The Game Changers (Mountainfilm 2018) examines the health benefits of plant-based diets, particularly on elite athletes.
