Growing up in Telluride in the early 1950s, John Bush fell in love with trains. Later, while working on a PhD. in anthropology, he had a life-changing injury and decided to pursue his first passion of working on old-time steam locomotives. Without losing his anthropological perspective, John has gone from track worker to mechanic, engineer, superintendent, general manager to president. He currently serves as the president of the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad, the nation’s longest, oldest and most authentic steam railroad. He also serves on the board of directors of the Heritage Rail Alliance. He is the subject of The Railroader (Mountainfilm 2019).
