In the Surf Iceland segment of director Joe Guglielmino’s Strange Rumblings in Shangri La (Mountainfilm 2015) surfers — wearing wetsuits with hoods and gloves and with the help of a Viking goddess and an ice boat — brave frigid waters and ice chunks to catch a wave. Shot in 16mm, the film features the surfing of Dion Agnius, Nate Tyler and Brendon Gibbens. The experience was so cold Guglielmino’s camera froze. Strange Rumblings won the coveted Movie of the Year at the 2014 Surfer Poll Awards. One of the most sought-after surf filmmakers and producers, Guglielmino also directed Year Zero and Electric Blue Heaven. And thus, Cult of Freedom - The Australia Part (Mountainfilm 2018) was born.
