Jessica Q. Chen

Jessica Q. Chen is an award-winning Chinese American filmmaker and video producer at the Los Angeles Times. Her work includes the Women of Apollo, a 10-part series for the LA Times, which was nominated for an Emmy in 2020, as well as the short doc That’s Caroline, which follows Caroline Marks, the youngest surfer to qualify for the World Surf League's Championship Tour. She was awarded the 2019 duPont-Columbia Award as associate producer for National Geographic’s Hell on Earth: The Fall of Syria and the Rise of ISIS, which premiered at the 2017 Tribeca Film Festival. Chen received her Master’s in Journalism at Northwestern University and a biology degree from the University of California, Irvine. She is the co-director of Surf Nation (Mountainfilm 2022 World Premiere), a documentary that tells the story of China's southernmost province where hundreds of young athletes train as part of the Chinese National Surf team.
