Jacey Depriest

Jacey is a teacher, an artist, and director of the Telluride Townie program. While taking a sustainability class from The New Community Coalition (TNCC) Director Kris Holstrom, DePriest was challenged to come up with a program that involved getting the community to adopt a sustainable issue and act upon it. She adopted the concept of Telluride Townie bikes, which had existed in the past but had since languised, and gave it a new cover: a home at Wilkinson Public Library. Telluride’s Wilkinson Public Library, in collaboration with The New Community Coalition (TNCC), became one of the first libraries to check out bikes to locals with a library card. 20-plus bikes were donated, stripped down to a single gear, outfitted with a front basket, and painted bright berry-pink. Now locals who want to cruise town the eco-friendly way can borrow a Telluride Townie.
