Heather Mackey

After completing a BS in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at Cornell University, Heather Mackey spent the next five years work as a field biologist. She has conducted conservation research in locations such as Kodiak Island, Alaska, the Galapagos Islands and the Australian rainforest. It wasn’t until she began her master’s research at California State University Los Angeles that she discovered the wonderment of West Texas. Mackey, who has spent two seasons on the Rio Grande researching the impact of riparian restoration on the bird and butterfly communities, is a subject of The River and the Wall (Mountainfilm 2019).
