Governor Jay Inslee
Washington Gov. Jay Inslee has been involved in public service for more than three decades, forging a reputation as a forward-thinking progressive leader. A fifth-generation Washingtonian, he graduated from the University of Washington and earned his law degree from Willamette University. He began his career in eastern Washington, where he worked as an attorney and prosecutor, and was later elected to serve in both the state House of Representatives and U.S. Congress. As a congressman, he focused on clean energy and environmental issues; he is co-author of Apollo's Fire: Igniting America's Clean-Energy Economy. Inslee ran for governor in 2012, and was re-elected to a second term in 2016. In 2017, after President Donald Trump signed an executive order to ban travelers from several Muslim countries in 2017, Inslee and Washington State Attorney General Bob Ferguson filed a lawsuit against the president, challenging the constitutionality of the ban.
