  • 2012 — Director
  • 2011 — Director, Filmmaker, Artist

George Gage transitioned from life in L.A. as a producer/director of commercials and narrative features to a Telluride-based documentary filmmaker in 1993 with his wife Beth. The husband-and-wife team specialize in what they call “documentaries with a conscience,” and their award-winning works include Fire on the Mountain (Mountainfilm 1995) about the 10th Mountain Division in WWII; Troubled Waters about the environmental impacts of damming rivers; and American Outrage, which chronicles the 35-year struggle of two Western Shoshone sisters to obtain justice from the U.S. federal government. The Gage’s film, Bidder 70 (Mountainfilm 2012), profiles environmental activist Tim DeChristopher, and their 2016 documentary Kickass Katie Lee  (Mountainfilm 2016) profiles river goddess and spitfire activist Katie Lee. Their film A Home Called Nebraska (Mountainfilm 2020) turns the camera on Nebraska as the state becomes the unlikely home for refugees. Most recently, their film The Children Will Lead the Way (Mountainfilm 2022) shares the story of teenage student survivors of the 2018 Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting tragedy as they worked with songwriters and musicians to harness their creativity and push through their trauma.
