Fred Beckey

Fred Beckey was a giant in the world of climbing who pioneered of hundreds of first ascents, mapped out routes around the world, authored many guidebooks and created the mold of the dirtbag. He started making first ascents in 1939 when he climbed Mount Despair in the North Cascades. He is the subject of Dirtbag: The Legend of Fred Beckey.

Beckey died October 30, 2017, at the age of 94.
