Doug Peacock

Naturalist, author, Vietnam veteran and wilderness warrior Doug Peacock was the inspiration for Edward Abbey’s iconic character George Washington Hayduke. Peacock has been inspiring fellow environmentalists for decades through written words about the healing power of wilderness, and has focused much of his life’s work on protecting the grizzly bear. He is the author of several books, including Grizzly Years: In Search of the American Wilderness and Walking it Off: A Veteran’s Chronicle of War and Wilderness. He is the subject of the Mountainfilm 2019 film Grizzly Country.
