Derek Knowles

Derek Knowles is a filmmaker from Los Angeles. He makes films about such quirky subjects as letter carriers, skateboarders who jump off buses, girls' education, iconic bands, Pluto, and most anything else. He's been fortunate enough to be a part of films that have played at festivals across the country — Sundance, South by Southwest, Tribeca — and across the world. Knowles has most recently jumped into a more serious subject, the fentanyl and opioid epidemic and how it has been influenced by the internet. Knowles is known for his work on The Last Swing (2017), Mars (2016), Girl Rising (2013) and Tamba (Mountainfilm 2018). He graduated from Stanford University in 2011 but is still most proud of leading tours for foreign tourists during the summer of 2013.
