David Lama

Son of an Austrian mother and Nepalese father, David Lama was just 5 years old when Himalaya-veteran Peter Habeler saw him climb and recognized his natural talent. At age 12, Lama became the youngest person to climb an 8b+ route. At age 15, he was junior world champion and twice winner of the European Youth Cup. From there, he took the step to senior level and became the youngest-ever competitor in a climbing World Cup event. In Cerro Torre (Mountainfilm 2015), Lama and his climbing partner, Peter Ortner, had to handle some of the camera work on their own because the film crew couldn’t follow the difficult pitches.
