Cutter Hodierne

Cutter Hodierne became interested in Somali pirates in 2008. That was before he toured with U2, shooting and editing footage that would become part of the band’s 2010 concert documentary U2: 360 Degrees at the Rosebowl. After the rock-n-roll gig, Hodierne decided to make a film about the pirates, but he realized that he had no idea what life in East Africa was actually like. He went to Mombasa to learn and managed to script, cast and shoot Fishing Without Nets (Mountainfilm 2012), despite significant hurdles: rife corruption, scant budget and a stint in jail.
