Broughton (Brot) Coburn

Broughton (Brot) Coburn is the special projects director for the American Himalayan Foundation, a charitable organization based in San Francisco that brings education, healthcare and environmental conservation to remote villages in Nepal. He is the author of Everest: Mountain Without Mercy; Nepali Aama: Life Lessons of a Himalayan Woman, which documents the life of an elderly subsistence farmer in the foothills of the Himalayas; and its sequel, Aama in America: A Pilgrimage of the Heart, which chronicles his 12,000-mile odyssey with Ama in search of the soul of the United States. In 1997, Coburn was awarded the American Alpine Club's Literary Achievement Award for his work.
