Alec Jacobson

Alec Jacobson writes and photographs from Telluride, Colorado, where he is the founder of the San Juan Independent, a nonprofit source of reporting for the region. He has traveled the world in search of slow stories, exploring global health programs in Uganda, Vietnam and the Dominican Republic; building a cultural magazine for ArtsRiot in Burlington, Vermont; and digging into community journalism in Colorado’s Western Slope. He interned at VII Photo Agency and has built a partnership between VII and the San Juan Independent to found a visiting journalist program. His work has been published in The New York Times, Vermont Medicine Magazine, The Community News Group and The Burlington Free Press. As a National Geographic Young Explorer, Jacobson traveled to Kasensero, Uganda, to document — in stills, video and writing — overfishing on Lake Victoria.
