Cancelled: Lance Mackey, who stars in The Great Alone, has faced enormous challenges in his life and emerged on the other side, often triumphantly. Through it all, the Iditarod racer has been propped up by a remarkable relationship with his dogs. Ace Kvale, the subject of Ace and the Desert Dog, lives in a remote pocket of Utah with 10-year-old blue heeler Genghis. Mackey and Kvale delve into the companionship of animals, the tribulations of life and the long stretches of time on the trail when it’s just them with their dogs.

Update: Ben Moon, Mountainfilm artist in residence, photographer and filmmaker behind the 2015 documentary Denali, will take the place of Lance Mackey in the Booze & Banter Talk “The Canine Connection” on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. at Smuggler’s.
