Job Purpose
Mountainfilm’s Tour Director is a key organizational leader responsible for managing and growing the Mountainfilm on Tour and Mountainfilm for Students programs. This role supports Mountainfilm’s mission and strategic goals by providing year-round oversight of all tour and student show locations. Strong leadership, team management and sales skills are essential for this position.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for the management of the Mountainfilm on Tour (tour) and Mountainfilm for Students (student) programs.
- Continuously evaluating the programs and implementing improvements to enhance the audience’s experience.
- Identifies and cultivates new tour and student program locations to support ongoing sales growth.
- Ensures all aspects of tour shows are executed, including marketing, sales, contracts, payments and collections and playlist curation.
- Cultivates and strengthens relationships with key partners, including new and existing tour hosts, school administrators, filmmakers, donors, supporters and others.
- Sources, secures and manages tour and student film programming and selections. Curates and develops compelling tour film programs.
- Prepares, develops, and manages the tour’s annual budget in collaboration with the executive director, and oversees all tour-related financial tracking and payments.
- Manages staff, including selecting and training team members, delegating appropriate and meaningful work, and providing development opportunities to ensure their growth. Oversees the job performance of tour staff and manages annual job evaluations.
- Develops and maintains internal systems for data tracking and reporting, and continually refines workflows to ensure efficiency and best practices.
- Understands the technical aspects of each show, able to run, troubleshoot, and ensure all audio-visual and production elements function smoothly during events.
- Participates in Mountainfilm’s strategic planning and ensures the tour and student programs meet their strategic, performance, and budget goals.
- Provide occasional Mountainfilm on Tour report for the Board of Directors.
- Travels to and attends tour and student shows annually, serving as emcee for events as needed.
- Ensures that all tour shows are well-executed, in compliance with technical requirements, and that marketing and promotional needs for hosts are met.
- Provides oversight and coordination of special guests scheduled appearances at tour shows.
- Ensures the smooth operation of the Mountainfilm for Students program, including coordinating classroom materials, managing regional student outreach, and the student program annual report.
- Manages Mountainfilm for Locals programs and assists with other events, including other screenings and fundraisers.
- Serve as an ambassador for Mountainfilm’s mission; represent Mountainfilm at events, screenings, etc,
- Supports the annual festival team by assisting as needed, including film screenings and other festival tasks.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a leadership role
- Demonstrated sales experience
- Experience within a comparable festival, films, or nonprofit organization preferred

- Experience with sales and donor/supporter engagement
- Experienced in budget management, monitoring invoices, and tracking expenses
- Self-motivated, proactive, and responsive, with the ability to address challenges constructively and maintain a sense of urgency when needed
- Technical proficiency with event A/V, Macintosh systems, Microsoft Office, Google Drive/Docs/Sheets, Airtable, and familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud software, including Premiere Pro
- Ability to effectively manage one’s own schedule and work independently to fulfill the job’s requirements
Working Conditions
- This position is based in Telluride, Colorado. Occasional travel is required.
- This role may require occasional evening, weekend, and holiday work to support tour and student programs.
- Accessibility is essential; the Tour Director must be available via cell during weekends and off-hours for emergencies.
- Dedicated office in an open office environment where festival and tour staff can grow from two to twenty people during busy times.
