Since 2000, Mountainfilm in Telluride has traveled the globe educating and inspiring audiences and starting conversations with films from our festival. We embrace the ethos of celebrating indomitable spirit and through our tour, we strive to incite change in global communities. We have recently embarked a on new project that allows us to promote our mission while treading lightly upon our landscape.
In June of 2009, we will embark on the Zero Emissions Tour - a 2,300 mile unsupported bike tour throughout Colorado, Wyoming & Utah. Along our route, we will organize community based events centered around Mountainfilm content. By illustrating how positive our tour can be with an almost total elimination of fossil fuels, we hope that our example will be a catalyst for action and that our sponsors will benefit from the direct marketing our tour will provide. During the first leg, we will bike to Vail, CO for the TEVA Mountain Games returning to Telluride with stops along the way. The second leg (June/July) includes stops in Crested Butte, CO, Lander, WY (International Climber’s Festival), Jackson Hole, WY, Park City, UT, Salt Lake City, UT (OR), and more.
Mountainfilm’s Mission
Mountainfilm is dedicated to educating and inspiring audiences about issues that matter, cultures worth exploring, environments worth preserving and conversations worth sustaining.
Goals & Objectives
The main goal of the Zero Emissions Tour is to inspire audiences through action. By riding to each stop along the way and recruiting others to join in the ride, we’re hoping to get more people out of their vehicles. Along the way we would also like to raise money for sponsor supported non-profits by splitting ticket revenue with our host locations. By raising enough sponsor dollars to cover our expenses for the two months on the road, we’re hoping to provide the screenings for little to no cost to local hosts. Our proposal is to partner with local non-profit organizations along the route and split ticket sales 60-40 with the 40% going to our sponsor’s designated non-profit organizations/initiatives and 60% going to the local host.
Beginning in Telluride, CO our route takes us across Colorado, up to Wyoming, over to Utah and back to Telluride over two months. The plan is to average 50 miles a day so we can spend enough time in our host communities to actively raise awareness of our trip, our films and our sponsors. After hitting the TEVA Mountain Games in Vail, CO, the International Climber’s Festival in Lander, WY, fibArk in Salida, CO and numerous points in-between, the entire trip will culminate in an industry bash in Salt Lake City, UT during the OR Summer Market (Date TBA).
Partnerships
This tour will not be possible without the generous support of sponsors and tour hosts. By working together we have the ability to activate our audience in a positive and meaningful way. We’re looking for sponsors that share the basic tenant that there is more that we can do to engage in our environment while having a lower impact. The following pages outline the proposed route as well as our planned outreach, PR, social networking and marketing.
