FROM: Peter Kenworthy / Executive Director

Dear Friends of Mountainfilm - Present and Prosepective:

I cannot articulate the essence of Mountainfilm any better than one of our past year's festival guests, filmmaker Jonathon Browning, whose short political satire, The Job, was a great crowd pleaser...

"Mountainfilm has been not only an amazing experience but a life changing one as well.

I came to Mountainfilm not knowing what to expect. I felt really lucky to have our short, The Job included. It was a labor of love and was only created because of the dedicated men and women who donated their times and talents to the project. I now can say the exact same thing about your festival!

To say that the films are what make Mountainfilm so amazing would be like pointing at one mountain and saying that is what makes Telluride so beautiful. The films, volunteers, staff, residents, gatherings, parties and filmmakers combine together to create something bigger than themselves. I am so proud to be a single tree in this amazing forest.

I have spent the last few days watching films on everything from free climbing to crude oil. Topics that I haven't spent a great deal of time learning about in the past. But now I feel not only educated but enlightened and empowered. You have created a really amazing lineup.

After watching First Ascent, just one of the many great films I've seen, I couldn't stop thinking about the passion those men and women displayed. They climbed because it was a passion that burned within them. Although I've never climbed anything bigger than a flight of stairs, I understood that passion. It is the passion that makes us artists. The Job was the first film that I ever directed and while at 3 minutes it might be more of a rock than a mountain, it was my "First Ascent".

I wanted you to know that you and everyone at Mountainfilm has inspired at least one filmmaker. I came here a filmmaker but will be leaving here an activist and a better person.

I will never forget my time here at Telluride. And I promised my wife that I will bring her back here next year. If we don't get a film in then we will come to support or volunteer. Thank you very much!"
- Jonathon Browning

And thanks to all of you whose generous contributions and support of every kind allow experiences like Jonathon's to occur year after year.
