Charlotte Lykes Jorgensen & Vevie Lykes Dimmitt

Charlotte Jorgensen and Vevie Dimmitt are sisters who come from a Florida family deeply rooted in cattle, agriculture and Gulf of Mexico shipping. They have both become accomplished painters, working to reflect nature. In early May 2010, the sisters met at the family beach cottage on Florida's Gulf Coast and inspired by the tragedy of the Deep Water Horizon disaster, they collaborated on a gallery show about the oil spill. Their work displays deep irony through the juxtaposition of extreme beauty in devastation. The proceeds from this series will go toward efforts to reverse the consequences of extensive habitat loss of the marshes, sea grasses, oyster beds, coastal forests and barrier islands that are the foundation of life in what is one of the world's most productive seas.
