Sandra Steingraber
Ecologist, author and cancer survivor, Sandra Steingraber is an internationally recognized authority on environmental links to cancer and human health. Steingrabers highly acclaimed book Living Downstream: An Ecologists Personal Investigation of Cancer and the Environment presents cancer as a human rights issue. Originally published in 1997, it was the first to bring together data on toxic releases with data from U.S. cancer registries. A documentary by the same name and about Steingraber and the book showed at Mountainfilm in 2012. Steingraber writes a regular column for Orion Magazine and has written several books, including Raising Elijah, about navigating children through a world fraught with environmental dangers. She has become a leading voice in the nation-wide battle against natural gas and fracking.
