Rick Hodes

Dr. Rick Hodes has lived in Ethiopia for 23 years, where he treats children with heart disease, cancer and spinal tuberculosis. He was the subject of the film Making the Crooked Straight, which won the 2009 Moving Mountains Prize. He spent that $5,000 cash award to help one child who he brought to Mountainfilm the following year. Mieraf—the 13-year-old girl whose spine he straightened—attended the festival, spoke and received a standing ovation.
