Rory Kennedy

Emmy award-winning producer, director and writer Rory Kennedy is co-founder of Moxie Firecracker Films, an independent documentary production company that she runs with partner Liz Garbus. Their films cover a variety of topics that range from human rights and health issues to domestic abuse and poverty. With Garbus, Kennedy has directed and/or produced over 20 documentaries, including American Hollow, The Changing Face of Beauty, All Kinds of Families, Pandemic: Facing AIDS, A Boys Life, Street Fight, Ghosts of Abu Ghraib and The Fence (Mountainfilm 2010). Her film Ethel (Mountainfilm 2012) is about her mother, Ethel Kennedy, the widow of Senator Robert Kennedy. She also profiled Laird Hamilton, who is best known as a pioneering big wave surfer — a label doesn’t do him justice — in the film Take Every Wave (Mountainfilm 2017).
