Peter Hessler

Peter Hessler is a staff writer at The New Yorker who has corresponded from Beijing, Cairo and Colorado. In 2007, he moved to Ridgway, Colorado, where he reported on the uranium industry and profiled a singular Nucla pharmacist. In 2017, he wrote a feature titled “How Trump is Transforming Rural America,” examining Grand Junction through its economic history, regional pro-Trump activists, and local newspaper. Hessler is also a contributing writer to National Geographic, recipient of a MacArthur Fellowship, winner of the National Magazine Award for Excellence in Reporting, and author of four books.
