Moving Mountains Prize
This $3,000 award goes to a nonprofit that is featured in a new film at this year’s festival. The judges watch each film and examine the mission of each nonprofit, considering its scope, impact and need in their decision. Note that the quality of the film itself is not a deciding factor for this prize.
Of course all of these nonprofits do important work, so each will receive at least $200. If you are moved by what you see and want to add to the collective prize pool, there will be opportunities to contribute.

The Audience Award
Some distributors think the audience award is a much better harbinger of success for a film than a juried award. Please vote for the Audience Award (by secret ballot at the Closing Picnic and Awards Ceremony). Remember, voting helps ensure a productive and thriving democracy and, if nothing else, assists the filmmaker with a cash prize.
The Charlie Fowler Award
Charlie was a mainstay of Mountainfilm for many years, and while we miss him terribly, we find some comfort in knowing his presence is with us for this award. The judges will try their best to discern which mountaineering or climbing film Charlie would have liked most for this $1,000 prize. Click Here to Read more about the award.
Student Award
Students in the Movies That Matter program decide on this award from a select group of films.
The Festival Director’s Award
It’s unlikely any distributors care about this award. It’s totally arbitrary (and certainly not democratic), but at least it’s completely transparent. This prize goes to a film that David Holbrooke has chosen from this year’s program.
Closing Picnic & Awards Ceremony
Monday, May 31 • 1 - 4pm
Telluride Town Park
This is the final gathering of the weekend for festival presenters, guests, audience, staff and volunteers. Awards to celebrate the finest films of the festival will be announced, as selected by our esteemed jury. The outdoor setting warrants appropriate dress for an afternoon in the mountains.
