JENNIFER LOWE-ANKER
TELLURIDE GALLERY OF FINE ARTS 2008 MF
Gallery Artist

Jennifer Lowe-Anker has lived what some might call an intense existence (hear her story of life with acclaimed mountaineers Alex Lowe and Conrad Anker on Sunday at 10:15 a.m. at the Sheridan Opera House), yet her lovely paintings are filled with warmth and whimsy.

One might think that a land of ice and snow would be devoid of color but the opposite is true. The vivid colors of the southern and northern arctic are visible in ice that is millions of years old in myriad turquoise blues to rival any stone. Northern and southern lights in a rainbow of color dance across the black arctic skies and white creatures are aglow with bright pastels of winter light. The magic of the North and South Poles is evident in the life that has evolved to live there and Jenni makes use of all those colors in the palette she used for these whimsical images produced with cattle markers on rag paper.
